Maureen Nunez Joins MBL Staff as New Chief Financial Officer
WOODS HOLE, MAMaureen F. Nunez has joined the staff of the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), an international center for scientific research and education, as its new Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Nunez comes to the MBL from Phillips Academy in Andover, MA.
Ms. Nunez is responsible for providing financial management and counsel to MBL leadership and for driving overall financial strategy and all aspects of the laboratorys financial operation. She also ensures that the stewardship of those resources meets the highest standards of the MBLs funders including government agencies, financial institutions, investors, and private philanthropists.
During her eight-year tenure at Phillips Academy, Maureen served as Associate Director of Business Services, Director of Business Services, and, most recently, Director of Risk Management & Administrative Services where she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Academys insurance program, legal affairs, contracts, real estate issues, public safety department, and dining services.

Maureens impressive background in financial and organizational leadership will help to guide and secure the financial underpinnings essential to fulfilling the MBL mission.
Ms. Nunez has held numerous other high-level positions, including Senior Vice President of Operations at Elderhostel, Inc.; Executive Vice President and Treasurer at Netifex Financial Systems, Inc.; Controller at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution; and Director of Finance and Administration at Southern Maine Technical College.
Ms. Nunez received a bachelors degree in oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1980 (the first graduating class to include women), and a Masters Degree in Financial Management from Johns Hopkins University in 1984 where she was the recipient of the Stegman Memorial Award for highest GPA. After she graduated from the Naval Academy, she served as a commissioned Naval officer, working as a Plane Captain Branch Officer, Communications Officer and as a Leadership Instructor at the Naval Academy.
