Local Environmentalists, Town Planners, and Teachers Visit The Ecosystems Center's Marshview Farm
The Plum Island Ecosystem Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) site held an open house on September 7 at its new facility in Newbury, Massachusetts. Marshview Farm was purchased by the MBL this year to provide office space and housing for researchers, space for samples processing, equipment and boats, and facilities to conduct experiments. The property includes two houses, a garage, and a barn. It supplements the small house in Rowley that the LTER rents from Essex County Greenbelt Association. According to Linda Deegan, a principal investigator on the project, there was a steady steam of visitors at the open house, representing the area's environmental groups, planning, conservation and select boards from three towns, and a number of teachers from local schools.
