Fellowships* for Environmental Journalists
Participants in the 2013 program will experience field and laboratory science immersion at both MBL in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, a world center for marine, biomedical, and environmental science, and at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, site of the historic Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study, launched 50 years ago.
Now part of the U.S. Long-Term Ecological Research Network, The Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study serves as a national benchmark for measuring the chemistry of precipitation, the status of recovery from acid rain, and many other indicators of forest ecosystem health, including plant and animal populations.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this historic study, the Logan Science Journalism Program fellows will partner with current Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study researchers studying soils, watersheds, and forest birds.
ALASKA FIELD EXPERIENCE (Limited fellowships available. Application Requirement: Completion of the Environmental Hands-On course). Travel to the Toolik Field Station on Alaska's North Slope and spend two weeks learning to ask and answer key questions in polar research.
